First Move

Data and privacy

First Move keeps your work on your device. There is no account and no password, and the projects you create are stored only in the browser you use. We never receive them, so we cannot read, share or recover them.

Where your projects live

Your projects, settings and choices are stored only in your browser's storage: the projects in its database (IndexedDB), with a copy of each project in its local storage as a safeguard. They stay in this browser on this device. Another browser or another device does not see them, and a private window may not keep them at all.

First Move asks your browser to keep this storage persistent, so that the browser is less likely to remove your projects on its own. Your browser decides whether to grant this.

Saving

First Move saves every change automatically, and the save status in the top bar shows when the project was last saved; there is no save button. If the same project is open in two tabs, they stay in sync. If both tabs change it, your version is kept, and the other one is saved as an earlier version.

Export and import

  • Export saves the open project as a .firstmove.json file, wherever you choose. The file holds your inputs. The results are not stored; they are calculated again when the file is imported.
  • Import reads a .firstmove.json file and checks it in your browser; nothing is uploaded. If the project is already in this browser, you choose whether to keep both or to replace the stored version. A replaced version is kept, so you can restore it.
  • A file from an earlier version of First Move is updated to the current format when you import it.
  • Report shows the open project as a printable page. Your browser prints it or saves it as a PDF; nothing is uploaded.

Export your projects regularly, because an export is your copy outside this browser. First Move reminds you to export from time to time.

Earlier versions

While you work, First Move keeps earlier versions of each project in this browser, up to 20 per project, for example before a restore, an import or a delete. Restore a version in the project menu brings one back, and the current state is kept as a version too.

In Chromium-based browsers, Link to a file in the project menu also saves the project to a file on your own disk. The file stays on your disk, and nothing is uploaded.

Deleting data

  • Delete a project from the project menu or from the list on the start screen. You can undo this only right after deleting, while the message is shown, so export the project first if you want to keep a copy.
  • Clear the site data of First Move in your browser's settings to delete everything it stored there: all projects, earlier versions and settings. We cannot recover them, because we never had them.

Cookies and settings

First Move sets one functional cookie, which remembers your language. Your theme and your other settings are kept in your browser's storage. The website has no tracking, no advertising and no third-party cookies, so there is nothing to accept. The Cookie Policy lists every cookie and storage entry by name.
